The growth of women's amputee soccer in the United States has mirrored broader trends of increasing inclusivity and recognition of women in sports. While initially lagging behind men's amputee soccer, recent years have seen a surge in interest and participation among female amputee athletes. Organizations such as the American Amputee Soccer Association (AASA) have been instrumental in this growth, actively promoting women's involvement through dedicated programs, training camps, and tournaments. The formation of women's amputee soccer teams at the national level has provided a platform for female athletes to compete and showcase their talents. This development is not only empowering individual players but also inspiring a new generation of young girls with limb differences to pursue their passion for soccer.

Globally, women’s amputee soccer continues to gain momentum, with growing support and visibility fueling its expansion. The World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) and other international organizations have made meaningful progress in elevating the sport for women—organizing global tournaments and fostering international collaboration. Countries like Poland, Turkey, and Mexico have built strong women’s amputee teams, helping raise the sport’s profile worldwide. A major milestone was reached in November 2024 with the inaugural Women’s Amputee Football World Cup held in Barranquilla, Colombia, where the U.S. Women’s National Amputee Soccer Team made an incredible run and earned second place. Their powerful showing marked a historic moment and helped shine a spotlight on the growing talent in the women’s game. As we look ahead, we’re committed to continuing the growth of women’s amputee soccer and preparing for an even stronger showing at the next World Cup.

The U.S. Women’s Amputee Soccer Program is growing, and we want YOU—athletes, supporters, and medical professionals, to be part of it!
